Hello reader,

My name is Austin Benesh. As a software developer based in Payson, Utah, USA, I get paid to play around with cool technologies such as Javascript, Neo4j and Kubernetes. I have a passion for functional programming and clean code, including efficient DevOps practices. This has been my full-time career since 2016.

One interesting fact about me, however, is that I actually have a degree in music. Yes! That’s correct: music. My specific degree title is Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance. Hence, you now know that I play the trumpet. I have had to back off this a bit lately, but it is my favorite instrument, and I absolutely love classical music. My favorite works include Dmitri Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2, Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 3 and Jean Sibelius Symphonies Nos. 2 & 5. A passion for classical music and computer programming — ingredients for an eclectic mixture! I make it work out.

My other hobbies include (road) cycling, DIY projects, gardening, hiking, and enjoying nature. Cycling is my all-time favorite sport and I love to follow the Tour de France, La Vuelta a EspaƱa, and other exciting races. I live in the world’s greatest, best-kept secret cycling paradise. Shh! Don’t tell anyone! I grew up near Fort Collins, CO–recently rated as the top cycling destination in the country–but I would still choose Utah County, Utah any day over Fort Collins.

I live in an old farmhouse on a 1/2-acre lot. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Additionally, I’m a big proponent of religious and speech liberty in the workplace, and in society at large.

Please, do not hesitate to reach out to me if you wish to get in touch. I’m always looking to build connections with like-minded people!

Thanks,

Austin Benesh
